24-hour hotline: 800.542.5212

CHH’s hotline is staffed by trained rape crisis counselors available 24 hours, 7 days a week to offer crisis intervention, support, and referrals based on a caller’s needs.

All hotline calls are confidential and safe. However we are obligated as mandated reporters to take action if information is disclosed regarding a child being in danger from a caretaker , or if the counselor fears that the caller is suicidal or homicidal.

Individual Counseling

  • RCSGL offers individual counseling sessions for victims of rape and/or sexual assault ages 13 and up.
  • Any person under the age of 16 will need to have a parent/guardian consent form signed in order to receive services at our agency.
  • Throughout these sessions the counselor, along with the client, might decide that the survivor would benefit from going to long term therapy at another agency or from services at outside agencies. At this point the counselor would refer the client out and work with the client to find services that would best fit the client’s needs.
  • Individual Counseling Sessions can be provided in English, Khmer, Portuguese and Spanish. Interpreters for other languages available upon on request.

Support Groups

Rape Crisis Services of Greater Lowell offers support groups focusing on different topics for survivors of rape and/or sexual assault and for families and friends of survivors.

Support group topics range from age, gender, young teen, type of survivor (i.e. incest, marital rape, etc.), art, yoga, parents, partners and more.

Groups are offered throughout the year based on requests and enrollment of group members. To enroll in a group, a potential client must make an intake appointment with the counseling department by calling 978.452.7721. During the intake process the client and potential group member will have a chance to meet one of the facilitators for the group and will be placed in a group which best meets the client’s needs.

Crisis Intervention

IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT
What you can do if you have just experienced a rape or sexual assault:

  • Go to a safe place
  • Call someone you can trust (friend, family member) or your nearest Rape Crisis Center (In Massachusetts, In the United States or world wide).
  • Seek medical attention at any Emergency Room. If you choose to do so, you can have an Evidence Kit examination.
    • A rape crisis counselor will be available to meet you at the hospital to offer you support, 24/7.
    • Certain hospitals are certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner sites (SANE).
  • Reporting or not reporting to the police is your choice. Going to the hospital DOES NOT mean you have to report to the police.
  • Going to the hospital makes you eligible to receive Victim Compensation from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
  • A police report DOES NOT need to be filed to have an Evidence Kit. There is no charge for the kit.

After such an experience it is normal for an individual to undergo a variety of reactions and emotions including, but not limited to the following:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Disbelief
  • Embarrassment
  • Emotional shock
  • Fear
  • Flashbacks
  • Guilt
  • Nightmares
  • Powerlessness
  • Shame
  • Vulnerability

If you feel any of these emotions; that is normal, but remember IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT.
